Garden of Humanity - “Money Explained to My Mom”

What is it?

Le Jardin d’Humanité invites you to the book launch of Jezabel Couppey-Soubeyran’s *Money Explained to My Mother… and Her Banker*.

Jézabel Couppey-Soubeyran is an associate professor at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and a scientific advisor at the Veblen Institute; she specializes in the banking system and financial regulation.

In a candid conversation with her mother, Jezebel tackles some fundamental questions about money. Who creates money? How long has it been around? Why have banks become so important in today’s world?

From barter to Adam Smith, from Christine Lagarde’s pearl necklaces to the credit bubble, from making ends meet to the mechanics of cryptocurrency, this book takes us on a journey through both the individual and collective dimensions of our relationship with money. Above all, it reminds us just how deeply political the subject is, for money shapes the world.

Understanding the history and workings of money is a powerful tool for empowerment. After all, what kind of world do we want for the future?
